Peer Pressure

But mom..... all the other kids are doing it... a lot of bloggers have been using Check out my cards as an online alternative for buying their cards. They're more expensive than the other options, but for some reason, the kids dig it. So far be it for me to resist... let's re-affirm our individuality by doing what everyone else does. It's like being a teenager again.

But I can't just go to the site and buy cards. No. That would be too easy. And I don't do things the easy way. So let's make it an experiment. Yeah. Buying cards in the name of research. Maybe I could get a grant or something.

The experiment. Spend no more than $20, including shipping, on COMC and Sportlots. And no buying a $20 autograph... they have to be cards off of my wantlists, or vintage cards for my impending TTM auto attempts.

First up, the $20 COMOC bounty. or booty. No. Let's go with bounty.

Some '75's...
but not regular old '75's...
they're all OPC baby!!!
If you like the '75's....
you should realy check out the 1975 Topps blog
no OPC goodness there though...
for that, you'll need to go here....
a Brave, of course. Gotta have at least one...
hell, even a Met.
I can't forget about my '71 OPC set... I already had Billy, but this one is an upgrade.
and one of the worst announcers of all time. No, not Joe Morgan....
and if you hadn't seen a '71 OPC back...

Next up, some hockey inserts. High book value here folks. Start yelling mojo.
the best player in the game....

and the goat of a nation...
more Alex
and three cards from the All World subset. only 7 more to go to yummy completion....
Book value $8!
Ilya has a book value of $10!

Danny has a book value of $10!!!
and the funny thing is, I forgot to scan a '74 Bob Lilly and a '75 Blaine Nye. Funny because the Lilly card is what prompted me to buy in the first place.
So that's it. 18 cards for $19.40.
$7.50 of which was shipping. Highway robbery. And another odd thing about COMC. They have this thing where you can make an offer on a card, instead of paying full price. Well I made an offer on all 18 cards from 8 different sellers. They were all accepted. This isn't a feature. It's a scam. The cards are all priced higher than what the seller is willing to take, and then when an offer is made, it is actually what the seller wanted in the first place.
If you buy a card off of COMC without using this "feature" you're badly overpaying.
This site seems to be a place for people who still buy Becketts hang out, desperately trying to hang on to their perceived book value, all the while cursing ebay for not paying attention to book value.
It has it's place in the community. No one forces anyone to use it. Buyer beware and all that. Like anywhere else, some cards are cheaper than everywhere else. Just be warned that as a whole, they are a lot more expensive than other sites.
I would like to know from someone who sells on that site to let me know what the fees are per card... if anyone does that, shoot me an email...
coming up next, the $20 sportlot portion.
