Fabulous Freddie Freeman ladies and gentlemen....

so last night, Braves rookie 1st baseman Freddie Freeman hit his 15th homer and drove in his 50th RBI of the season. Freddie became the first Braves rookie to drive in 50 runs by or before July 18th since some guy named Henry Aaron in 1954.

No pressure kid.
all this from someone who looks like he should be handing me my fries. (Well, except for the whole 6'6" 227lbs thing)
If you'll notice I haven't shown any Freddie Freeman cards. That's because I don't have any. Seriously. Will someone out there hook a Braves fan up?

Keep swinging Freddie.

Oh! and for those of you who remember my Craig Kimbrel post from a couple of weeks ago, with his next save he'll set the Braves rookie record for saves with 30.

I'm going to need my shades.

Braves win. Best record in the National League.

They ain't #1 for nothing folks...

Yes, the Atlanta Braves, the number one team in the National League, faced the latest in a long line of phenoms tonight. Finally, Stephen Strasburg, has come back, to Atlanta. And left with his tail between his legs.
The Braves had no problem hitting him from the 1st inning on. Only superb diving defensive plays and Melky Cabrerra being thrown out at home plate stopped the Braves from scoring in the first four innings. And while I'm at it.... why is overated idiot... I mean Melky wearing his older brother's pajamas on the field? The pants are baggy and so long they fit over his shoes, and the jersey would fit me, and I'm a lot bigger than Cabrerra. Grow up, and learn how to dress yourself son. The wind almost lifted you off the ground between third and home.
The only success Strasburg had was in the fifth and sixth when he struck out 6 Batters out of 7. Although he had help. For two innings, if Rodriguez could reach the pitch, it was called a strike. This led to a rather heated discussion about the strike zone between the home plate umpire and Bobby Cox between innings. In the 7th, after the "discussion" the umpire started to pay attention again, and the Braves loaded the bases with no one out. Four runs and six hits later, Strasburg was on the bench, and the Braves rolled.
I can certainly see the talent (this was my first Strasburg game)... this kid looks like the real deal. Kids like him and Jason Heyward are great for baseball. Just not tonight. Not against Tim Hudson and the Atlanta Braves.
Final Score - Braves 5 Washington 0

You may call him Sir...

Braves win.
Adam 2-3 with a walk and scored the game winning run.

Who?

The Braves won again tonight, thanks to a pinch hit 3 run home run from Brooks Conrad.

Who?

I pride myself on knowing my team and it's players. Including most of the young pups down on the farm.

But Brooks Conrad? Nope.

To Baseball Reference we go. Now we're getting somewhere. He's a thirdbaseman for the Oakland Athletics.

What? Baseball Reference does not even list how he came to Atlanta. So now I won't be able to sleep tonight until I find out this information.

A quick check on Zistle shows he does have a baseball card. 2004 Topps Chrome Traded #165.
For the Houston Astros. Even though he never played for them in a single game.

Hmmm.... well, regardless, I congratulate Mr Conrad on hitting his very first big league home run, and in his very first at bat with his new team, the Braves.

Now somebody show me where I can get a card of this guy.....

4-0

Wow!

That was some playoff hockey! Two amazing Game 7's... and the Braves beating the Cardinals. Before I get to the hockey... an interesting note to the Braves/Cardinals series.

Pujols is 1 for 8 with 3 strikeouts. The Cardinals have "intentionally" walked Chipper 5 times. Including 4 tonight. There is no way that LaRussa is letting his guys pitch to last years Batting Champion, while Bobby is letting his young staff go after what is considered the best hitter in all of baseball. Interesting chess match.

Now the good stuff. If you don't like what you saw in tonight's Game 7's, you're not a sports fan. Wow! Great action and intensity. And some of the greatest goaltending you'll ever see. Amazing.
How Carolina came back against New Jersey I'll never know. I watched it, and I still don't know. Two goals in the last 1:20 of the game to win 4-3. Unbelievable. Cam Ward deserves a medal for his heroics in the Hurricanes' net.....

Speaking of heroics... the only reason there was a Game 7, or a Game 5 for that matter, is Henrik Lundqvist. Unbelievable. The Rangers were no match for the powerful Caps, but Henrik stole, took, absconded, with 3 games.

Wow. This is the reason that playoff hockey is the best sports has to offer, better than the Superbowl, far better than the World Series....
