Flying Facts Batman!

It's Saturday, a day of rest here at The Daily Sports Tome; however, that doesn't mean that our audience does not deserve a healthy does of daily random facts to tide them over through what is (hopefully) a day off from them as well. To provide this service, we turn to the top Internet source on all things random, Wikipedia. Its time to learn 5 things you probably never knew before:

(Note: All entries are pulled directly from some Wikipedia page)

#1 Mike Shanahan was an undersized quarterback at Eastern Illinois University in the 1970s before a hard hit on the practice field ruptured one of his kidneys, nearly killing him.

#2 Steve Young is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and is a direct descendant of Brigham Young.

#3 Steve Young signed a record 10-year, $40 million contract with the Los Angeles Express of the now-defunct United States Football League in 1984. He agreed to take his payment in the form of an annuity to help the fledgling team; he would receive $1 million every year for 40 years. The league ceased operations in 1986 after losing most of its claims in an antitrust suit against the NFL. Young was still being paid his annuity as of 2005.

#4 Like many other NFL teams located in subtropical climates, the Tampa Bay Bucs traditionally wear their white jerseys at home during the first half of the season — forcing opponents to suffer in the darker colors during the hot summers and autumns in Tampa. Additionally, the visitors' bench of Raymond James Stadium is located on the east side of the stadium, which is in direct sunlight for 1:00 games. The west sideline is in the shade.

#5 Lou Holtz had the names removed from the backs of the player's jerseys when he took over at Notre Dame, wanting to emphasize team effort. Except for the 1988 Cotton Bowl against Texas A&M, names have not been included on Notre Dame's team jerseys ever since.

Those are just the facts, mam.
